It’s been an exciting couple of months at Brand by Me HQ – not only did we win Creative Business of the Year 2018 at the Precious Awards, but last week at the Women in Marketing Awards, our founder Collette was Highly Commended as an Independent Consultant!
Being recognised amongst a shortlist of such amazing women from top brands and brilliant agencies has been a huge achievement for us and we’ve left these ceremonies feeling so empowered. But this sense of empowerment is not because we won, but rather because we were in a room of winners. A room of inspirational women being celebrated for thriving in the business industry.
Ade Onilude, Founder of the Women in Marketing Awards, told the room “Women in Marketing is a platform to represent and celebrate you”, uniting and commending women from around the world for their contribution to the marketing industry. The aim of the awards is to ‘educate, inspire, connect and recognise women’ and as we entered the Museum of London for the ceremony, this tone was immediately set. We were educated on the Suffragettes fight for women’s right to vote in a tour of the ‘Votes for Women’ exhibition. We were inspired by the speeches given by thriving women in the industry, such as Ade Onilude, the evening’s host Gemma Greaves, CEO of The Marketing Society and Caroline Diehl MBE, founder of the Social Founders Network. By the end of the ceremony, we had connected with each individual woman on our table, both physically via LinkedIn adds and business card swapping, but also emotionally as we found common ground in our career progressions to date, despite our differing backgrounds - from large corporations to charitable organisations. And finally, three of the women nominated on this table (including our Founder!) were recognised by WiM that evening.
As Gemma Greaves said, “marketing has the opportunity and most importantly the responsibility to make a difference” and Women in Marketing are a shining example of this, not only for organising these awards for the past 8 years, but also for continuing to build on their campaign this year by launching a ‘Diversity and Inclusion Charter’ - a call to action for brands and agencies to make a tangible commitment to diversity within the way they work.
The power of women coming together is about connecting with like-minds and being inspired and encouraged by our shared experiences. The power of women coming together is about championing and creating opportunities for us all to succeed. And the story of the Suffragettes shows us the power of women coming together to change the world and create lasting legacies.
